Over the years we’ve had it pounded into our heads that sugar isn’t good for us. It’s known to cause cavities in our teeth, makes us gain weight, or even worse, become diabetic. But heart disease and cancer? Yes-siree! In this CBS 60 Minutes video from 2012, Dr. Lustig explains how sugar is a killer lurking in our kitchen cabinets. This information was originally brought to light in his youTube video, Sugar: The Bitter Truth.
Dr. Lustig explains that humans are meant to eat small amounts of delicious natural sugary fruits. Until recently, sugary foods were difficult for our ancestors to come by. They ate very little sugar, and when they did the foods were rich in beneficial properties. Fruits are full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and much more. Honey, though very difficult to harvest due to all those pesky bee stings, possesses antiseptic and antibacterial properties as well as being rich in B vitamins and minerals. Small amounts of these natural sugars isn’t a problem.
Our modern diet is toxic. Rich in processed carbohydrates, sugar offers no redeeming benefit what-so-ever. The in depth studies Dr. Lustig is performing prove sugar is as addictive as opiates, so breaking the cycle of consuming sugar is challenging for most people.

Health is something we take for granted, until we no longer have it.
